Knowing God’s Word Is Our Only Hope Of Victory

“No temptation has overtaken you
except such as is common to man;
but God is faithful,
who will not allow you to be tempted
beyond what you are able,
but with the temptation
will also make the way of escape,
that you may be able to bear it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13
We often think our trials are greater than we can bear, but they aren’t. As God said to Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you.” Later when the trial is over we can look back and see how the fingerprints of the Lord were all over the story. God is faithful. And that’s why our trials are bearable.
There is always a very definite purpose for each trial. The Lord is doing a work in us, and our place is to submit to him as we would submit to a wise father bringing his child to maturity.
“Therefore he says:
God resists the proud,
but gives grace to the humble.
Therefore submit to God,
resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
James 4:6-7
How do we submit to God? We submit to God by KNOWING his WORD and acknowledging its truth. We see in Matthew chapter 4 the passage showing Satan tempting Jesus. The Lord answered him with, “It is written…” and he quoted the Word of God to him, and Satan fled.
You cannot abide in the Word of God and have victory over sin and temptation unless you KNOW the Word of God. It is incumbent upon us to abide in his Word daily, we are to be prayerfully reading his Word every single day. If not, the devil knows us very well and can find the most effective ways to cause us to fall.
