He Has Put Eternity Into Their Hearts

“If then you were raised with Christ,
seek those things which are above, where Christ is,
sitting at the right hand of God.
SET YOUR MIND on things above,
not on things on the earth.”
Colossians 3:2

To one who is not born again, this won’t make sense. That’s the person who would accuse a believer saying he’s “so heavenly minded that he’s no earthly good.”

But to one who is born again, he doesn’t need to be told to set his mind on things above because it comes naturally, from the heart which is always thinking of exactly that because God has placed eternity into his heart.

“…he has put eternity in their hearts…”
Ecclesiastes 3:11

An amazing thing happens when one is born again. The believer comes to realize that he is just passing through on his journey on earth, and his permanent destination is heaven. As the world becomes more and more wicked, he realizes that he just doesn’t belong here. It becomes clear that there are two kingdoms, the kingdoms of this world under the control of Satan, and the kingdom of God which we are transferred into when we are born again. They are as different as night and day and this becomes more and more obvious as the believer grows in understanding.

The apostle Paul said that dying is gain and he longed to go.

“For I am hard-pressed between the two,
having a desire to depart and be with Christ
which is far better.
Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.”
Philippians 1:23-24

Brothers and sisters, we’re only here for a short time, let us use the time remaining wisely. Seek the will of God for your life with all your heart. The only thing we can bring to heaven with us is the souls of men.
