Remind Yourself Of Your Jordan

“O my God, my soul is cast down within me;
THEREFORE I will remember you
from the land of the Jordan,
and from the heights of Hermon,
from the Hill Mizar.”
Psalm 42:6
When you’re locked down in depression, discouragement, despondency, the way out of that pit is to remember things the Lord has done in your life in the stories of the past, in your “Jordan, Hermon, and Mizar,” and let those things encourage you.
Years ago I kept a journal, recording all the “God things” that happened in my life. One day awhile later, on a day when I was down and discouraged, I happened upon that journal and sat down and began to read it. It brought back to my mind the times when the Lord was so very apparent in my life, the day he had done this or that, and the day he provided this or that, and the day he made himself known to me in this or that amazing way, all those things I had recorded when they happened. By the time I was halfway through reading that journal, the discouragement and depression had left me and I was restored in faith and joy.
When almighty God visits you, do not forget what he said or did but write it down. Keep a journal and record every time he changed things, ever time you had a “but God” story, every time you saw his fingerprints all over incidents in your life. His words are precious and his ways are faithful. How irreverent and unappreciative are we if we take them lightly.
