The Irony Of It – The Humility Of Jesus Christ

“And when they had come to the place called Calvary,
there they crucified him”
Luke 23:33
One of the most profound elements in this story is the irony. Jesus Christ ALLOWED himself to be tortured and crucified. He did not resist:
“He was oppressed and he was afflicted,
yet he opened not his mouth.
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his mouth.”
Isaiah 53:7
The men who crucified him were dependent on God for their next breath. Imagine it! This is the Son of God who created the universe:
“For by him all things were created
that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible,
whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through him and for him.
And he is before all things, and IN HIM ALL THINGS CONSIST.”
Colossians 1:16
He created and sustains the universe, yet he allowed men which he had made – to torture and crucify him. Oh the irony! Oh the condescension! Oh the awesome Love of God!
“He came to die on a cross of wood,
who made the hill on which it stood.”
In this the love of God is shown, because he was sacrificed FOR US. On that Cross, he received in himself the judgment upon all the sins of everyone who would come to him. He did for us what we could never have done for ourselves because we are sinners, but he was not.
The following is the most awesome clip I have ever seen. Share it with others. It could change a person’s destiny.
