Be Of Sin The Double Cure

“Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
and in sin my mother conceived me.”
Hebrews 51:5

“The world” teaches that man is born in innocence with a “clean slate.” But that is not true. All born of Adam are born in sin. We are born with a fallen human nature.

That might become very obvious if you were to put two toddlers together in a room with toys. Invariably, one is going to want the toy the other has and can become almost violent in trying to take it away. Put a toddler in a room with a bowl of candy on the table and tell him not to touch the candy. You know what would most likely happen. In these and in many examples like these the sin nature is exposed as being inbred.

“The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately wicked;”
Jeremiah 17:9

We are trapped in this fallen nature and no one is able to conquer it. No one. Try conquering something within yourself – and if you succeed, your sin nature will break out in some other way.

We need a Savior, and that’s why God sent his Son to die for us, to take upon himself the judgment on our sins. Through faith in him we are washed clean. Through being born again we are enabled to overcome. But without him, we are hopelessly bound.

If you realize you live in a fallen human nature, turn to the Savior God has provided and surrender yourself and your life to him. He will begin a work in you that will absolutely amaze you as he perfects you ever so slowly to be the person he intended you to be from the beginning. Trust him.

“Be for sin the double cure,
save from wrath and make me pure.”
