Anger – A Cup of Poison

“Cease from anger, and forsake wrath;
do not fret – it only causes harm.”
Psalm 37:8

This can be a hard one. When one is angry, HOW can he cease from it? Anger is a powerful emotion and not easily let go. The answer is the same whether in this or in anything from God’s Word that seems impossible: ASK.

“But,” you say, “I don’t want to let it go because it is justified! Look at what he/she did or said!”

You can choose to stay in it, but “it only causes harm.” Anger is a poison that eats one up. If you truly understood this, you wouldn’t want to stay in it. Would you drink a glass of poison if your enemy offered it to you? That’s exactly what’s happening with anger. He’s offering you poison.

Also, what you do in anger will NOT bring about anything good

“…for the wrath of man does NOT produce the righteousness of God.”
James 1:20

Take it to the Lord, tell him why or how this is so unfair, (yes, he WILL listen, and yes he WILL care) then leave it with him and ask that his peace, the peace that passes all understanding, replace the anger.

It may be, if you’ve been hurt a lot in life, perhaps it will require healing, especially if there is a root of bitterness. Whatever the root of the problem, Satan has purposely targeted that root. Always be aware that he actively works to stir things up. He is real, and he is malicious, loving to cause division and hatred. Bring it to the Lord and he will minister to you there at the very root.

ASK! In him alone is the help you so desperately need.
