The Best Investment You Can Make

Jesus is speaking here:

“These things I have spoken to you,
that in me you may have PEACE.
In the world you will have tribulation,
but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33

These passages show us that the aim of life on earth is NOT “health, wealth, and prosperity.” We are told that we’re living in a fallen world, that Satan is “the god of this world,” (2nd Corinthians 4:4) and that we’re going to have tribulation and all manner of affliction come upon us. The good news of the Gospel is that in Christ we will have peace no matter what (John 14:27), a peace that surpasses understanding, (Philippians 4:7), and the great anticipation of heaven to come.

We’re only passing through. Picture a yardstick: our sojourn here is the first 1/16th inch on that yardstick. The rest is our life to come in eternity. If anyone truly understands this, let his aim be to invest this life for eternity. Jesus said that we aren’t to lay up for ourselves treasure on earth which is going to pass away, but rather be wise and lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven, which will never pass away:

Jesus went advised us to make the wisest of investments:

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy
and where thieves break in and steal;
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys
and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Matthew 6:19-20

vs 21:
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

“If then you were raised with Christ,
seek those things which are above,
where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Colossians 3:1-2
