Sowing And Reaping Works Both Ways

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked,
for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
For he who sows to his flesh
will of the flesh reap corruption,
but he who sows to the Spirit
will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”
Galatians 6:7-8
The reason people don’t “get” this is that oftentimes the reaping does not happen immediately, so people go their merry way not realizing that they WILL reap from whatever they sowed. If I touch a hot stove and receive a burn, I will learn that touching a hot stove will harm me, and I won’t touch it again. But the laws in the spiritual world are somewhat different. The results of our actions often come only later. The bottom line, though, is that they WILL come.
The Scripture continues:
vs. 9:
“And let us not grow weary while doing good,
for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
The law of sowing and reaping applies to our good works too. Our prayers and the works we do out of love for God and man WILL bring results. But by saying “if we do not lose heart,” the Scripture is encouraging us to continue on regardless whether we see results now or not, because the results WILL come …if we do not lose heart.
“Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.
He who continually goes forth weeping,
bearing seed for sowing,
shall doubtless come again with rejoicing,
bringing his sheaves with him.”
Psalm 126:5-6
Be encouraged therefore. Do not lose heart, but press on. The results will surely come.
