More Than Service – He Wants Your Heart

“I know your works, your labor, your patience,
and that you cannot bear those who are evil.
And you have tested those who say they are apostles
and are not, and have found them liars;
and you have persevered and have patience,
and have labored for my name’s sake
and have not become weary.
Nevertheless I have this against you,
that you have left your first love.”
Revelation 1:2-4
There are disputes on the subject of salvation by faith versus salvation by works. People who do good works and think that by doing so they are ensuring their salvation are missing the mark. No, salvation comes by receiving Jesus Christ as one’s savior and Lord. Nothing can be added to, or taken away from the atonement he provides freely for sinners.
But when one is truly born again, the desire to serve God becomes evident in his transformed life. He has a fire burning inside, the desire to use what gifts God has implanted in him in service to God – not as a requirement, but serving from the heart. There is a danger in this though, when one’s works become the main focus of his life, when his focus is on himself rather than on the Lord.
More than any works we have done or will do for the Kingdom of God, more than all, he desires our hearts. We can be so busy that we forget to spend TIME with him. Spending time with the Lord in prayer, in praise and worship, in thanksgiving, immersing one’s self in the Word of God, needs to be our priority beyond all else.
Don’t be so busy in service to the King that you forget the King.
