Many Rich Are Among The Most Poor

“Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy,
and have need of nothing,’
and do not know that you are wretched, miserable,
poor, blind, and naked…”
Revelation 3:17
Wisdom is seeing a thing from God’s perspective. Truly, truly nothing is more deceptive than wealth. It gives a very false sense of security.
For many, perhaps most, the goal in life is to acquire wealth. The danger in wealth is the self-sufficiency it brings. This very thing is what keeps many away from God. It blinds a person from thinking about what comes after death, he is short-sighted, focusing only on the short time he has on earth with nary a thought about his approaching very long time in eternity. As his mind is overtaken with his drive to acquire, he can’t afford to be thinking about his eternity. He is blinded to it.
Mankind often defines a person according to the wealth or prestige that he has, but God views the wealthy differently. In his eyes, many who are wealthy have no idea how wretched they really are, how poor, how blind.
Most of the rich in this world, are among the most poor.
