They Call It Dysfunction – God Calls It Sin

“If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.”
1st John 1:8

People trust the “experts,” even when they contradict the Word of God.

The world’s experts say our dysfunctions aren’t “sin,” no, our wrong behavior comes from an abusive father, an alcoholic mother, a dysfunctional family, an illness, a mental illness, repressed anger – there are myriads of explanations, and myriads of names for our particular dysfunctions.

But the Word of God doesn’t call it dysfunction, it calls it sin. The problem is that if we accept a scientific name for our dysfunction, thus absolving us of guilt, that can keep us from salvation because the first step in salvation is confession of our sin and taking responsibility for it, without excuses. To many, that’s too great a blow to pride. And pride is the greatest sin.

The origin of all dysfunction is the death principle which took over when our forefather Adam brought sin into the world. From then on all his descendants are born in sin. We are sinners by nature and that is the root of all “dysfunction.”

Are we victims? Yes, we are born in sin, to sinful parents, into a sinful world and victims of the sins of others. The only way to salvation is to surrender our pride and confess our sin regardless of how it came to be in us. There are always explanations to relieve us from guilt, but the fact that it is sin cannot be excused away. Pride has to bow before God and the truth has to be acknowledged. The truth is that sin by any other name is still sin.

“When one rejects truth, lies fill the void.”
-John McTernan

Bring your brokenness to Jesus Christ, confess your sins and he will deliver you from the darkness that caused it.
