“You shall love the Lord your God
with all your heart, with all your soul,
and with all your strength…”
Deuteronomy 6:5

vs 14-15:
“You shall not go after other gods,
the gods of the peoples who are all around you,
for the Lord your God is a jealous God among you,
lest the anger of the Lord your God
be aroused against you…”

Believers so soon forget that we are to be a separate people who wholeheartedly separate themselves from the gods and the ways of the people around them.

We live in an evil time, and we are warned NOT to go after the lusts and idolatries and philosophies of the peoples among whom we live, but to be a separate people, to love and worship the Lord our God who has revealed his Word to us.

But the world is all around us. Television, the internet, the media, experts, teachers, philosophers, all that the world has to offer …HOW, may we ask, are believers to be separate from all these?

The only way is to thoroughly know the Word of God. Any believer who is not immersed in the Word of God daily is a sitting duck for deception. Any believer who is not immersed in the Word of God daily is subject to all the influences from the world.

Jesus, when tempted, answered with “It is written….” And this must be our defense too – but that necessitates that we know what is written. Otherwise, we will cease to be a people separate from the world.

“Come out from among them
and be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
and I will receive you.”
2nd Corinthians 6:17
