We Are Not Under The Law

“…the righteousness of God, through faith
in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.
For there is no difference, for all have sinned
and fall short of the glory of God;
being justified freely by his grace
through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
whom God set forth as a mercy seat by his blood,
through faith…”
Romans 3:22-25
It’s hard for a person who grew up under the law to understand that we are NOT justified by the law, that in fact, the law works against us because we live in a fallen human nature.
It’s a whole different mindset and hard to understand if we’ve been trained to seek our goodness by the exercise of our own will. We are NOT saved by being “good.” No one is. We are saved when we recognize that we live in a fallen human nature which cannot be “trained” to be good by the law. The harder we try, the more we become distraught because it simply doesn’t work, it CANNOT work.
“…therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in his sight…”
Romans 3:20
The remedy? There is only one. Jesus said those born in a fallen human nature …must be born again. A man who becomes born again receives a new life, he is transformed – slowly – into a whole new mindset. This is the work of God, not of our trying to train ourselves into it. It is the work of God, NOT ourselves.
vs 27:
“Where is boasting then? It is excluded.”
The flesh, the old nature, cannot be trained. If you overcome one fault, there will always, ALWAYS be another. We must be born again.
