The Way Up Is Down

“At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying,
‘who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’
Then Jesus called a little child to him,
set him in the midst of them, and said,
‘Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted
and become as little children,
you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.’”
Matthew 18:1-3

A very profound concept. Isn’t it human nature to always strive to be greater? To become the expert? To reach the place of power? To be looked up to by all?

In God’s economy, these are the things that bring a man down.

God hates pride. Pride is what caused Satan’s fall. He was the most beautiful and wise of all the angels, the leader of the worship in heaven, but pride caused his downfall. He was so impressed with himself that he desired to arise equal to, or higher than, God. He took 1/3 of the angels with him in his effort to vie against God …and Satan and those angels lost their place forever. That’s what pride does.

Satan appeals to human beings through the lust of pride and causes many, many to fall thereby. Be constantly on guard against pride, it’s deadly and that’s why God has said so much against it in his Word.

Meditate on this. The way up …is down.

“So the last will be first, and the first last.”
Matthew 20:16
