Give Earnest Heed

“Therefore we must give the more earnest heed
to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.”
Hebrews 2:1
We’ve heard it all and after awhile many have become dull to it. But God has given us his Word and specifically warns us not to take it for granted, not to become dull to it. No, it’s vitally important to give it “the more earnest heed.” And those who don’t … usually drift away, oftentimes ever so slowly that the drift isn’t even noticed.
It’s like the frog in the pot of water being slowly heated. Because the heating process is slow, he remains unaware until it’s too late. And so it is with our tendencies to become too used to hearing the Word of God and therefore becoming dull and we slowly drift away.
vs 3:
“…how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation…”
And it IS great, so great that we need to pay EARNEST attention to it and be watching, lest we become dull to it.
Make TIME for God! Be nourished in his Word daily. Just as you wouldn’t deny your body its nourishment, be as diligent with your soul lest slowly, slowly you drift away.
Lest “the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches,
and the desires for other things entering in choke the word,
and it becomes unfruitful.”
Mark 4:19
Value his Word above all else. Read it daily. Abide in the Word of God.
