Cooperate With Him

“In this you greatly rejoice,
though now for a little while, if need be,
you have been grieved by various trials,
that the genuineness of your faith,
being much more precious than gold that perishes,
though it is tested by fire,
may be found to praise, honor, and glory
at the revelation of Jesus Christ…”
1st Peter 1:6-7
“though it is tested by fire…”
When gold or any metal is tested by fire, it is heated up to a very high temperature. The dross rises to the top and is skimmed off. That process is repeated until what remains is pure gold.
When our faith is “tested by fire,” the dross in us – anger, fear, doubt, pride, whatever the Lord is wanting to cleanse us from – rises to the top and is skimmed off so that what remains is pure. Therefore do not resist the process. Instead, let your prayer be, “Lord, grant me grace and strength to surrender to you and to cooperate with you in what you desire to accomplish in me.”
One thing you do not want, and that is to stand before the Lord at the end and grieve over what could have been. Surrender now with your whole heart and cooperate with the cleansing process that all believers go through. The day will come when you will be SO glad you did.
