Foolish Talk

“But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness,
let it not even be named among you,
as is fitting for saints;
neither filthiness, NOR FOOLISH TALKING,
NOR COARSE JESTING, which are not fitting,
but rather giving of thanks. For this you know,
that no fornicator, unclean person,
nor covetous man, who is an idolater,
has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.”
Ephesians 5:3-5
Have you ever confessed to the Lord the sin of “coarse jesting?” Have you ever confessed “foolish talking?” Who would have thought that the Word of God would address such a “minor” thing?
But it does.
We do it without even thinking about it – and we’re mostly unaware that that kind of talk is actually an offense to our God. We are not to be “of the world,” but when we talk like they do – what message is that sending to people who know we are believers in the Lord Jesus Christ? They watch us – and we must be aware of it always and avoid foolish talk and coarse jesting or anything else which might cause them to laugh at our profession of Christ.
Keep that in mind when you are in “the world,” and always remember that you represent the Lord Jesus Christ before an unsaved and dying world.
“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ,
as though God were pleading through us:
we implore you on Christ’s behalf,
be reconciled to God.”
2nd Corinthians 5:20
