The Tongue Is A Weapon Of Mass Destruction

“And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity.
The tongue is so set among our members
that it defiles the whole body,
and sets on fire the course of nature;
and it is set on fire by hell.”
James 3:4-6
How many of the problems between people are caused by unwise and destructive words spoken! The fallen human nature when stirred to anger is always ready to answer back harshly and attack unmercifully. For one claiming to belong to God this should not be. It satisfies the flesh for a moment, but can do harm forever.
When you feel justified in saying something hurtful, ask for, pray for, grace to keep your tongue under control. Before you give that sharp answer, or before you call someone that hateful name, ask yourself if this is going to accomplish anything other than hurting the person you’re attacking.
We are NEVER justified in hurting others – EVEN IF we feel they deserve it. What do you hope to accomplish? It will accomplish NOTHING good and only drive your opponent deeper into bitterness.
Take hold of mercy instead …as God is merciful to you.
‘Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”
Matthew 5:7
