Can A Believer Be Demonized?

“Now there was a man in their synagogue
with an unclean spirit…
…But Jesus rebuked him, saying,
‘Be quiet, and come out of him!’
And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him
and cried out with a loud voice,
he came out of him.”
Mark 1:23-26

Nowadays most believers don’t believe that there are demons in this world. They sure were around when Jesus walked the shores of Galilee. So where did they go? They didn’t disappear. They’re still here.

vs 34:
“Then he healed many who were
sick with various diseases,
and cast out MANY DEMONS;
and he did not allow the demons to speak,
because they knew him.”

There were people afflicted with demons in that day, and there are today. The difficulty is that we’re talking about things we don’t see. Do you believe there’s such a thing as electricity? You don’t see it, but you can see the effects of it. And so it is with the spiritual realm. We don’t see it, but we see the effects.

All people are vulnerable to afflictions in the body, AND the soul. Just as bacteria can indwell a believer, so a demon can. Bacteria are evil, they sicken and can kill no matter whether the person is a believer or not.

The problem here is the assertion that if someone is born-again, he can’t be “possessed” by an evil spirit. Yes, that is true. He can’t be “possessed” by an evil spirit. But the word in the Scripture isn’t “possessed,” it’s correctly translated “demonized.” A believer CAN be demonized, or demon-afflicted.

If the church at large would understand that, it would lead to having to deal with it, and some very afflicted people could be set free.

If this touches you, ASK the Lord about it.
