“When Jesus heard it, he said to them,
‘Those who are well have no need of a physician,
but those who are sick.
I did not come to call the righteous,
but sinners, to repentance.’”
Mark 2:17

The greatest thing that will keep people from the Kingdom of God is pride. When a man thinks himself better, smarter, more capable, more hard-working, than others, he puts himself in the category of having no need for the great Physician.

That’s why Jesus said:

“…it is easier for a camel
to go through the eye of a needle
than for a rich man to enter
the kingdom of God.”
Matthew 19:24

The riches he was speaking of here are not just finances, he’s speaking of any riches in a man’s heart that make him think himself safe and secure in his own abilities. Most of the rich will not come to salvation. Pride will effectively stop them.

The Lord came for those who recognize their need for him. Most of these …will not be the rich:

“For you see your calling, brethren,
that not many wise according to the flesh,
not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world
to put to shame the wise,
and God has chosen the weak things of the world
to put to shame the things which are mighty;”
1st Corinthians 1:26-27
