The Way To Peace

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true,
whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just,
whatever things are pure,
whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good report,
if there is any virtue,
and IF there is anything praiseworthy,
think on these things.”
Philippians 4:8
This flows perfectly from the prior statement in verse 6, “Be anxious for nothing…”
Scriptures counsel us to bring everything to the Lord and leave it there, and then to focus our mind, our soul, our heart, on the things that are pure and lovely. If we consistently do this, then verse 7 tells us the result:
vs 7:
“…and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Always pay attention to the “if’s” in Scripture. They challenge us so that we might arrive at the goal.
If you have never experienced the peace of God, if you have never experienced a kind of peace that truly surpasses all understanding, then ask for it and follow the counsel above, “think on these things.” The peace of God is something that cannot be described in human words. It’s a peace that totally transcends any trouble or trauma we’re in. It needs to be experienced to be understood. Go before the Lord and humbly ask him to infuse you with his peace. Truly it IS “a God thing.” And he has told us how to get there.
