“For we spent enough of our past lifetime
in doing the will of the Gentiles,
when we walked in lewdness, lusts,
drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties,
and abominable idolatries.
In regard to these, they think it strange
that you do not run with them
in the same flood of dissipation,
speaking evil of you.”
1st Peter 4:3-4

When one is born again, he is so changed inside that he loses interest in the things that previously made up his life. To those he used to go with, they cannot understand. Not that they won’t – they are not ABLE to understand the changes in him. So they speak evil of him. They make fun of him.

If one approaches Christ and desires to be born again he must know first that this experience is going to radically change him. And there is a price to pay, the loss of friends, sometimes even family, a whole new and different life, not by the choice of becoming “religious,” no, it happens by the life-transforming power of the Holy Spirit inside. Only he who wants God with all his heart need ask.

People spend a lot of time and interest preparing for retirement. They invest in all kinds of ways to ensure they will live comfortably once they retire. They read, they listen, they search, they invest. If that is so important, why don’t they use that same wisdom to invest their lives here for the eternity to come? On a yardstick, life here is the first 1/16 inch. The rest is the life we will live in eternity.

True wisdom is spending this life as an investment in the one to come. What could be more important?
