“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to preach the Gospel to the poor;
he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed;”
Luke 4:18

When I came across this passage upon reading the Bible for the first time I just stared at it, hardly able to believe what I was reading. Jesus was saying here that he was sent to heal my broken heart. I could hardly imagine it being actually healed, it was so shattered. He goes on to say that he was sent to set the captive free and to set at liberty those oppressed.

I pondered this passage deeply for a long time. Then I asked the Lord to do in me what these words of Jesus said. And the process began, a long process, but a truly supernatural one.

God is faithful, if one will but believe his Word. He has healed my broken heart and has set me free from more things than I could count, and each one was a whole story in itself.

Are you broken? Is your heart broken? Are you bound by things you hate but over which you have no control? Jesus can do what no psychiatrist or counselor could even begin to do, because the broken need the supernatural power of the Lord Jesus Christ to heal them – no other power, religion, or philosophy on earth can heal a broken heart.

Come to him. Be willing to confess your sins, he demands absolute truth; don’t fear that part, your confession will be met with mercy. Surrender your life to him. Ask him to heal your broken heart. The change in you will be a testimony someday. Believe in his Word. It is SO trustworthy.
