“Those who hate me without a cause
are more than the hairs of my head;
they are mighty who would destroy me,
being my enemies wrongfully;”
Psalm 69:1-4

We are mystified when people reject us when we see no reason for it. Perhaps there is someone at work who dislikes you and you don’t know what to make of it because there is absolutely no reason for it. If you try to be pleasant to that person, it changes nothing.

Jesus spoke to this very thing.

“If the world hates you, you know that
it hated me before it hated you.
If you were of the world,
the world would love its own.
Yet BECAUSE you are not of the world,
but I chose you out of the world,
THEREFORE the world hates you.”
John 15:18-19

Yet, you say, I haven’t been offensive to them. I have not fought back, I’ve done nothing to warrant the rejection.

You don’t have to do or say anything which would cause the rejection. You are hated because the world hates the Spirit of God within you. You need not say a single thing, this is a supernatural thing. The Spirit of God dwelling within you is very, very real. Though He is unseen, yet the world recognizes the Spirit of God within you and will hate you. Jesus told you this in advance, so don’t be perplexed when it happens.

And it’s not just in the workplace. Loved ones, even members of your family may reject you.

“I have become a stranger to my brothers,
and an alien to my mother’s children;”
Psalm 69:8

It is costly to follow Jesus Christ. You will be hated without cause. But keep your eyes on the prize; those who suffer rejection in this lifetime will have all eternity to enjoy the rewards of their faithfulness.
