Change In Covenant Means Change In Law

“For the priesthood being changed,
of necessity there is also a CHANGE of the law.
For He of whom these things are spoken
belongs to another tribe,
from which no man has officiated at the altar.
For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah,
of which tribe Moses spoke nothing
concerning priesthood.”
Hebrews 7:12-14

All of the law given to Moses was ministered by the priests who HAD TO BE of the tribe of Levi.

Jesus was NOT of the tribe of Levi, yet it is written that HE is our high priest forever. Therefore, none of the    Levitical law applies to us because our High Priest is not from Levi. When the priesthood changes, the law changes.

“For the priesthood being changed,
of necessity there is also a CHANGE of the law.”

If you belong to Jesus, you are not bound to keep the Levitical laws. Jesus has come with a better covenant, not dealing with outward rites and rituals, but dealing with the TRANSFORMING of the heart, when we put our trust in him and follow the lead of his Holy Spirit. What the law could not accomplish, the Spirit of God accomplishes – not on stone tablets, but in the heart of the born-again believer.

“For what the law could not do,
in that it was weak through the flesh,
God sending his own Son
in the likeness of sinful flesh,
and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh
that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Romans 8:3-4

No longer does the believer follow laws, but instead follows the leading of the Holy Spirit whose laws have been placed in our hearts.

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,
these are sons of God.”
Romans 8:14
