“According to the grace of God which was given to me,
as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation
and another builds on it.
But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
For NO OTHER FOUNDATION can anyone lay
than that which is laid, WHICH IS JESUS CHRIST.”
Romans 3:10-11

One day Jesus asked his disciples who people were saying that he is. One answered that some were saying he’s Elijah, another said some are saying you’re one of the prophets.

Then Jesus asked, “Who do YOU say that I am?”

Peter answered, “You are the Messiah (the Christ),
the Son of the living God.”
Matthew 16:16

Then Jesus told Peter and the other disciples that it is upon this rock, “YOU ARE THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD” – that he builds his church. Not on Peter, Peter is not the foundation, the foundation is the REVELATION the Father gives, from which we cry out “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

There is NO other foundation. The foundation of the faith is Jesus Christ. The foundation of the church is the revelation of this truth, that Jesus is the promised Messiah who came to deliver us from our sin, who gave his life for our justification.

It’s all about HIM, and NO OTHER. And that’s the point.
