Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet

To Spare Him Is To Hate Him – Says God

“Chasten your son while there is hope,
and let not your soul spare for his crying.”
Proverbs 19:18

The world says that physical discipline is child abuse, the media showing pictures of children bruised with cigarette burns and broken bones. They hold these cases up to support their view that you must not physically discipline your child. And the world buys that.

The Word of God is NOT advocating child abuse. Just as guns don’t kill people, people kill people, so it is with child abuse – the fact that there are child abusers does not mean that physical discipline is abuse.

The point here is whether parents will receive God’s prescribed way of training up a child, or whether they will reject God’s Word and agree with the world.

“FOOLISHNESS is bound up in the heart of a child;
the rod of correction will drive it far from him.”
Proverbs 22:15

Look at the fruits of a generation of children brought up under the world’s philosophies. We now live in a world where anything goes. Even teachers in public schools have lost the “right” to demand respect from the children. The children shout out obscenities with impunity. We’ve created a generation of self-willed, insolent children who live by the motto, “I’ll do it my way and you can’t stop me.” And they’re right.

“He who spares his rod hates his son,
but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.”
Proverbs 13:24

To raise a child rejecting God’s way of training him is to hate the child, says the Scripture, because the parent is denying him the training needed to teach him there are consequences to disobedience, self-will, rebellion, and lawlessness.

DARE to live by the Word of God who alone is wise, and not by the world which soundly rejects his Word – look at the fruits of that.
