Thy Word Is A Lamp Unto My Feet

Rituals and Traditions Blind People From The Truth

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
For you are like whitewashed tombs
which indeed appear beautiful outwardly,
but inside are full of dead men’s bones
and all uncleanness.”
Matthew 23:27

Dead men’s bones…

The scribes and the Pharisees were “the religious” of their day – those who considered themselves righteous because of the religious rituals they performed. They taught others not the law of God but religion, the rites, rituals, and traditions of men.

Religious rites and practices, traditions which have been developed over the centuries – are useless. They make a “religious” person feel good, feel righteous, but they are deceptions blinding the eyes to the true nature inside that man does not want exposed. They hide the truth and blind the heart.

“The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately wicked;”
Jeremiah 17:9

Jesus did not come for “religious” people who consider themselves righteous by performing the traditions they’ve grown up with. He came for those who know what they really are inside – sinners in dire need of salvation.

If you belong to a religion that teaches you that if you perform its rites and rituals you are a “righteous” person, hear the Words of Scripture that these practices not only do not make you righteous, but they blind you to the truth of what is truly inside you and they prevent you from dealing with that truth.

To be saved, you must deal with the truth of Jeremiah 17:9, that you are sick with sin and in need of salvation. Come to grips with that, then come to the Savior acknowledging and confessing this truth about yourself, and surrender yourself and your life to him asking for his salvation. You will never regret it. Then, and ONLY then, you will be saved.
