Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet

Are You Discouraged?

“But as for you, brethren,
do not grow weary in doing good.”
2nd Thessalonians 3:13

Why would anyone grow weary in doing good?

For several reasons.

We live in a fallen world, born to fallen parents, sin manifesting everywhere, our hearts being grieved by what we see. We try to bring the Gospel to people and they reject us. We do good things but they come to nothing. We get discouraged.

But the Lord tells us not to grow weary in doing good, and that implies that if we stick with it there will come a day when we will see the answers to our prayers.

Abraham waited many years before the promise became fact in his life. Moses waited many years in the land of Midian before the Lord brought word to him that now was the time to rise up and bring God’s people out of Egypt. Joseph waited many years rejected and banished from his family before his family was finally restored. And so it is with SO many – what they watched for eventually came to pass, but in the meantime it looked like it wasn’t ever going to come.

One day I asked the Lord why I had to wait so long for a request to be granted, thinking something must be wrong because I saw nothing concerning the promise. His response to me was, “How long has my Son waited?”

I sat there in shock! I considered the promises that were made to Mary the mother of Jesus, the promise that he would sit upon the Throne of David and reign from Jerusalem. To this day, there isn’t any Throne of David! Jesus has waited more than 2,000 years for this promise to be realized.

Faithfulness in waiting, especially in waiting long, is something extremely valuable to the Lord. Don’t be discouraged. The answers WILL come.
