When I’ve read this in times past, I’ve wondered why on earth would they continue to blaspheme God and refuse to repent. But Scripture tells us that at some point their hearts have become hardened and reprobate that they can’t. I read a book about deathbed experiences, and I was really amazed at several who, on their deathbeds, realized how wrong they were but were UNABLE to repent. Ministers and friends tried to help them, but their confession was that they COULD NOT repent and they went off into a Christless eternity. Here are a few last words of dying atheists:

When the Spirit of God leaves a person, that person is no longer able to repent. The Holy Spirit doesn’t leave a person because of sin, He leaves when he has been rejected. You can’t ignore God and think that you’ll repent “someday.” It won’t happen. You won’t be ABLE to.

“Today, if you will hear His voice,
do not harden your hearts…”

Don’t put it off, you do not know what tomorrow will bring. Forever is a long, long time.
