“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing,
in EVERYTHING give thanks,
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1st Thessalonians 5:16-18

“in everything give thanks…”

It’s easy to bring thanksgiving to God for the good things he has placed in our lives. But notice how the verse reads: “IN EVERYTHING…”

Can I thank God in EVERY situation?

Yes, because the painful things that come into our lives are used to bring about God’s excellent plan for us. Through them he changes our hearts. If we will surrender to the painful things and bring to God thanksgiving even for the hard things in life, he will work out those things for the good, and that’s a promise:

“And we know that ALL things work together for good
to those who love God,
to those who are the called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28

In a major trauma in my life, I would never have believed even this could be worked out for the good. As it turned out, it worked out for good far more than I ever could have imagined. It taught me never to cease praising, no matter what the circumstances. It made me a believer.
