“…let every man be swift to hear,
slow to speak, slow to wrath;
for the wrath of man
does not produce the righteousness of God.”
James 1:19-20

Anger is a very powerful force as we all know, and when it is aroused it is capable of all manner of evil.

Settle it in your own soul beforehand, that you will never speak or act while anger is raging within you. It can only work evil. It will NOT produce anything good. It will NOT produce the righteousness of God. It will only cause bitterness in the person you’re angry with. Be prepared beforehand, before emotion is able to overtake you. Decide in your heart that you will not give in and entertain the dark thoughts anger arouses in one’s heart.

It is one of Satan’s favorite efforts. If he can cause your anger to be lit like a fire, then there is no limit to what he can accomplish through your raging emotions.

“Be sober, be vigilant,
because your adversary the devil walks about
like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
1st Peter 5:8

If you can identify Satan as the perpetrator rather than the person he uses against you, then by the grace of God you can prevent the damage Satan intends.

Pray with me:

Father I can’t in myself overcome anger, it’s just too powerful. But I realize the harm it can do. I ask you for grace, grace to enable me to refuse to let anger prevail. I ask for self control. Father, replace my anger with your peace, the peace that surpasses understanding. In Jesus’ name I ask.
